the sage

Hi there, I'm the Sage.  For as far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated with the moving, flickering images on the screen.  For close on forty years I have been obsessed with the pictures and story's that film has presented to us.  My earliest fascination was definitely with horror film make up.  My parents had a small video section at their place of business just before and during the height of the video nasty era.  Naturally this make up fascination only grew.  I loved to imagine and try and work out how they created a certain scene, a creature transformation or a head exploding.  Thankfully my parents were pretty liberal (not sure if that was a good thing or not), and the whole era really took my curiosity by storm and I wanted to create horrible disgusting things.

Unfortunately that calling passed me by and after leaving school I ended up working for my parents.  I used to fondly remember certain films and upon re-watching them I would realise just how bad some of them really were.  The seventies was a golden era in film-making though, almost anyone could get something made and distributed.  Plus there was the huge influx of badly dubbed Italian films being imported.  It was a truly glorious time.  After my parents sold their business, I somehow landed into office and retail management.  It was then that I really discovered Film Noir, Giallo and naturally (due to the sheer amount) got into action films.  The late eighties and early nineties was certainly a boom period for action films with the numerous 'stars' that were around.

It wasn't until much later that I really got into the wonder of foreign language films (especially Asian).  Of course, as kids we'd all seen the numerous martial arts films that were available, but serious cinema from overseas really opened my eyes to a different type of experience.  I was instantly smitten.  Now fortunately I have more free time on my hands in which to indulge in my greatest hobby.  Thus the idea of this site was born as I re-watch my ever-growing personal collection.  I hope you enjoy what we have to offer, so please do comment, like us on social media and/or contact us if there is something you'd like to see or discuss.
